We can’t defend what we don’t know

🟠 Week 4: Our Rights – Advocacy & Justice

Riddle:What belongs to everyone, is written into law, but must be known and defended to be real?

Answer: Rights.

After reflecting on Mandela’s fight for justice, it’s the perfect time to focus on Our Rights. Knowing and claiming our rights is the next step to turning dreams into reality — especially for DeafBlind people, whose rights are often overlooked despite legal protections like the UNCRPD.

This week’s theme, Our Rights, is about empowering the DeafBlind community to learn what the law promises — from equal access to education and work, to the right to safety and participation. It’s also about holding systems accountable when those rights aren’t met.

Understanding rights builds confidence. Advocating for rights turns courage into change. When we speak up, we transform written promises into real-world freedom and dignity.

As Helen Keller said, “Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other’s welfare, social justice can never be attained.”

Conclusion

This week, let’s learn our rights, share them with others, and commit to building a society where every DeafBlind person’s rights are respected.

Wishing you a strong, empowering week — until we meet again!
