A DeafBlind man in a small town struggled for years to access healthcare because no one would provide information in a way he could understand. One day, he contacted a local disability rights group, who helped him write a formal request for accommodations.
The clinic responded, and things changed. A staff member was trained to communicate with him using tactile signing, and they gave him printed information in Braille.
He said, “It wasn’t just about seeing a doctor. It was about finally being treated like I mattered.”
