Did you know?
one of the most important ways to care for your emotional well-being is to speak up for your needs?
This week we’ve been talking about emotional well-being, community support, and understanding your rights, and what better time to reflect on those values than during Global Immunization Week and the lead-up to Good Friday?
Good Friday is a day many people set aside for reflection, connection, and care. It’s also a time of renewal and preparation, just like taking care of your health through immunisation. In fact, advocating for your health, by staying informed, making empowered choices, and asking questions, is one of the most important ways to care for yourself and your community.
So if you’re hoping to enjoy your Easter bunny chocolates or simply a peaceful, connected weekend, making sure you’re protected through immunisation and understanding your rights is part of the preparation!
Whether it’s about health care, communication, or support services, being your own advocate means knowing your rights and being confident enough to express them.
You don’t have to do it all at once. Start small:
Speak up when someone touches you without permission.
Ask for your preferred way of communication.
Say what makes you feel safe, understood, and respected.
This is how you build strength and self-worth—one conversation at a time.
And remember: being an advocate doesn’t mean you’re alone.
You can also lean on your community, like the DeafBlind Community Support WhatsApp group, where members learn, share, and support each other through every step of their advocacy journey.
So this Easter, while you’re enjoying your treats and time with others, remember:
your voice, your health, and your choices matter.
Stay informed. Speak up. Stay well.
