September has been a month of reflection — on legacy, on the languages that carry our voices, and on the many cultures that shape who we are. These themes remind us that our heritage is not only about history, but also about how we live today and what we pass forward.

Sometimes, poverty trauma shows up quietly in our heritage — in the way scarcity, silence, or exclusion become part of how we act, think, or even celebrate. But Heritage Day (24 September) gives us the chance to practice something different. It is a day to honour what is beautiful and strong in our legacies, to share our languages proudly, and to celebrate cultures as living, breathing sources of dignity.

This Heritage Day, perhaps we can choose behaviours that strengthen us rather than diminish us — sharing stories instead of silence, lifting one another instead of competing for scraps, celebrating abundance instead of carrying scarcity.

As we do, we prepare ourselves for what comes next. Because the lessons of September — legacy, language, culture — are also stepping stones into October’s themes, where we will explore how rights, mental health, and access connect to the everyday lives of persons with disabilities.

✨ On Monday the 29th, we’ll close September together and open the door to October’s new journey.
