DeafBlind identity

What belongs to you, is carried with you everywhere you go, and no one else can truly take it away — yet many people never really see it?

(Answer: Your identity.)

As we kick off July, we celebrate International Joke Day on the 1st — a perfect reminder that laughter connects us. Jokes and riddles open hearts and bring people together. For the DeafBlind community, connection and belonging are the keys to a meaningful life.

This week’s theme, Who We Are, is all about identity: knowing who we are beyond labels and limitations, sharing our stories so the world understands DeafBlind lives, and celebrating that each person’s identity is unique, valuable, and worth protecting.

By recognizing and respecting each other’s identities, we build stronger communities where everyone belongs. Just as a shared laugh makes strangers into friends, sharing our true selves creates belonging.

As Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

This week, let’s embrace what makes each of us unique — and share it with others. Because our identities, like laughter, have the power to break down barriers and bring us closer.

Wishing you a joyful, connected week ahead — until we meet again!
