Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light

🟠 Saturday: Community & Connection

Together, We Thrive

This week, we’ve spoken about how DeafBlind people communicate, the strength they show, the tools they use, and the respect they deserve. But one truth holds all of this together: we are stronger when we’re connected.

For a DeafBlind person, connection can be life-changing. Not just for mobility or access, but for emotional well-being, a sense of purpose, and the simple joy of being included.

Communities that include DeafBlind individuals — not just in planning, but in friendship and decision-making — are healthier for everyone.

Here are a few ways we can build connection together:

🤝 Start a buddy system — pair people for daily check-ins or shared tasks

🫂 Support group circles — small, regular gatherings (in person or virtual)

💬 Mentorship opportunities — allow DeafBlind individuals to lead and teach

🏘️ Community-based outreach — include DeafBlind people in local projects

💬 “I don’t always need someone to guide me. Sometimes I just need someone to walk beside me.” – DBSA member

Belonging doesn’t come from charity. It comes from being invited, welcomed, and included — as equals.

Let’s keep building a world where no one is left behind, and where connection is a shared responsibility.
